Arbuscular mycorrhiza and the phosphorus nutrition

Arbuscular mycorrhiza have a key role in phosphorus nutrition of crops by improving the total absorption and in some cases the phosphorus use efficiency

Mycorrhizal roots have the ability to absorb minerals at low concentrations and to a greater extent depending on the root length.

Extra-hyphae may levy phosphorus far beyond what would be the depletion zone only roots and ensure its translocation to the host root cortex. Improving the phosphate nutrition is mainly due to more efficient absorption of ions from the soil solution through a wide exploration of the environment by extra-hyphae.
