Direct seeding

Direct seeding is a technique that allows the establishment of crops without tillage. It therefore has a single operation, that is to say the seed. It follows, therefore, a maximum amount of crop residue on the floor.
The advantages and disadvantages following may be associated with direct seeding:
Advantage:
  • Protection against soil erosion by water and wind through residue cover.
  • Significant improvement, usually from the third year of the structure and the biological activity of the soil.
  • Decreased compaction through reduced traffic and a better bearing capacity of soil.
  • Reducing purchasing costs, operation and maintenance of machinery.
  • Save time in the spring and fall, and thus reducing labor costs.
  • Reduced energy demand.
Disadvantages:
  • Warming and slower drying of the soil. However, once the ranks generated by the action of the cup-residue drill, this problem does not exist for the sown band.
